The qualifications have been designed to provide the study skills and introductory vocational knowledge to learners who wish to progress within business, administration and finance, but who may not yet be at a Level 2 standard. This may be because they have previously not achieved at Level 2, or because they have been out of education for some time. They also include a number of ‘green’ unit options designed to enhance awareness of ‘green’ issues.
The Level 1 Award in Skills for Professions in Construction and Engineering is a qualification for learners wishing to explore vocational study alongside learning skills. The size of the qualification makes it ideal for learners who are not yet ready to commit to a larger qualification.
The Skills for Professions in Construction and Engineering are regulated by Ofqual, the qualifications regulator for England, and are registered on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). This course has 9 credit value, 90 TQT (total qualification time) and 73 graded learning hour (GLH).
There are no specific entry requirements for these qualifications, however, centres should assess the suitability of units for younger learners before delivery.
Learners may be:
• 14-19 years old in full-time study;
• adults who wish to progress to higher level qualifications in construction and/or engineering;
• currently employed in a construction and/or engineering role and wish to progress;
• currently not in employment and looking to improve their future career prospects.
The Level 1 Award in Skills for Professions in Construction and Engineering comprises the choice of one study skills unit or a range of optional ‘green’ units, and a number of optional vocational units. Learners must achieve 9 credits in total:
• 3 credits from either the ‘Introduction to Study Skills’ unit OR 3 credits from the Group 3 ‘Green’ units;
• 6 credits from the vocational units in Group 1.
the learners are assessed through activities that are internally set by tutor/assessors;
• the activities must be designed to enable learners to meet the assessment criteria of the unit;
• learners’ portfolios of assessed evidence must be internally moderated at the centre;
• the portfolios of assessed evidence will be externally moderated by an London External Moderator.
There is no additional external assessment for these qualifications.
Each unit has a supplementary page with suggestions for the types of assessment activities that can be used to assess learners against the unit. Tutor/assessors should refer to this page before devising assessment tasks.
Each activity must be marked against the identified assessment criteria in the unit and judged to be either achieved or not achieved.
Tutor/assessors need to ensure that the work in a learner’s portfolio is:
• authentic
• sufficient
• adequate

The UK tuition fee for the 2024-25 academic year is currently £9,250 per year. This is based on the UK Government’s cap.
The International tuition fee for the 2024-2025 academic year is £33,450 per year.

All International applicants to Undergraduate programmes are required to pay a deposit of £2000 against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is payable when you firmly accept an unconditional offer to study with us, and will be offset against your tuition fees when you join King’s.
If you choose the study abroad option with one of King’s partner universities, you will not be charged tuition fees by the host university (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to invoice for a proportion of King’s tuition fees. You should also budget to pay for the associated subsistence costs, such as travel, visas, accommodation and food as well as any vaccination/immunisations required by the country to which you are travelling. For the Year in Industry, King’s will invoice students for a proportion of King’s standard tuition fees. At present these are as follows but may be subject to change: • Home and EU students working for a full academic year will receive an invoice for £1,350 for King’s tuition fees for the year. • Overseas students working for a full academic year will receive an invoice for one third of the King’s tuition fees for the year
