About the Level 3 Award in Education and Training
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is an initial teacher training qualification designed for individuals who want to start a career in teaching or training within the further education, adult learning, and private training sector. This qualification provides learners with a strong foundation in teaching principles, learning strategies, and assessment methods.
Formerly known as PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector), the Level 3 AET is the recognised replacement qualification under the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It equips learners with the essential knowledge and confidence required to plan, deliver, and assess inclusive teaching sessions for adult learners across a wide range of subject areas.
As an Ofqual-regulated qualification awarded by ATHE, the course is nationally recognised and widely accepted across the UK. It is suitable for learners who are new to teaching, those currently delivering training without a formal qualification, or professionals wishing to gain a recognised teaching credential.
The course is delivered through flexible study options, including online/distance learning, live virtual sessions, and face-to-face classroom delivery, allowing learners to balance study with work and personal commitments.
