The Level 1 Award in Skills for Professions in Horticulture, Environmental, and Animal Care have been developed to provide a flexible approach to study using a range of optional subject-specific vocational units in horticulture, environmental, and animal care combined with units in learning skills and ‘green’ units. The qualifications are suitable for use in a range of learning situations and lend themselves to the development of individualised learning programmes.
The qualifications have been designed to provide introductory vocational knowledge and skills, together with study skills and ‘green’ skills, to learners who wish to progress within the field of horticulture, environmental, and animal care, but who may not yet be at a Level 2 standard. They are a useful introduction to learners exploring outdoor careers in these areas.
The Level 1 Award in Skills for Professions in Horticulture, Environmental, and Animal Care is tailored to equip learners with fundamental knowledge and competencies in these specialized domains. The Level 1 Award, designated with 9 credits, offer learners a structured curriculum aimed at providing essential knowledge and skills for progression in horticulture, environmental studies, and animal care.
These qualifications are meticulously designed to ensure alignment with educational standards and regulatory frameworks, as evidenced by their registration on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and regulation by Ofqual. These qualifications are subject to periodic evaluation to maintain relevance and quality.
Learners engaging in these programs are expected to dedicate approximately 81 guided learning hours (GLH) over a total qualification time (TQT) of 90 hours, fostering comprehensive understanding and skill development.
Assessment procedures are conducted internally by tutors/assessors and are subject to internal and external moderation to ensure consistency and fairness.
Aligned with the Department for Education’s 16-19 study programme initiative, these qualifications serve as core components for learners not yet meeting Level 2 standards.

The UK tuition fee for the 2024-25 academic year is currently £9,250 per year. This is based on the UK Government’s cap.
The International tuition fee for the 2024-2025 academic year is £33,450 per year.

All International applicants to Undergraduate programmes are required to pay a deposit of £2000 against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is payable when you firmly accept an unconditional offer to study with us, and will be offset against your tuition fees when you join King’s.
If you choose the study abroad option with one of King’s partner universities, you will not be charged tuition fees by the host university (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to invoice for a proportion of King’s tuition fees. You should also budget to pay for the associated subsistence costs, such as travel, visas, accommodation and food as well as any vaccination/immunisations required by the country to which you are travelling. For the Year in Industry, King’s will invoice students for a proportion of King’s standard tuition fees. At present these are as follows but may be subject to change: • Home and EU students working for a full academic year will receive an invoice for £1,350 for King’s tuition fees for the year. • Overseas students working for a full academic year will receive an invoice for one third of the King’s tuition fees for the year
